Apprentice Lucy wanted to try an experiment. How could we achieve a marbled effect in a cake? We started with a vanilla cake batter, divided it up between several small bowls, and added our color gels. We only needed a couple drops of each color. We then spooned it into the prepared pans in random order and amounts. "Here's a small spoonful of green. Here's a generous spoonful of purple. Here's some more green..." We did that until all the batter had been added to the pans. We then baked as normal, and you can see the wonderful results here. As we layered the cake, it reminded us of Rorschach images. What do you see in the layers of cake?
