Jennifer entered a cake competition. The goal was to recreate her own wedding cake which had been inspired by the cover of the Summer 1998 Martha Stewart Weddings magazine. Their inspiration was the techniques used by dressmakers to make flowers from fabric.
For the wedding in 2002, a local bakery did a great job of making a cake that looked just like the one on the magazine. Now, 13 years later, it was Jennifer's turn.
Jennifer received a bronze medal from the American Culinary Federation judges.
The cake is vanilla, with vanilla buttercream. The cake is covered in vanilla fondant, and all decorations are made of fondant, sugar paste, and royal icing.

When making a 4 tier cake, you need an industrial size mixer.
Baked, filled, covered, and stacked.
Piping work is started.
Cut up cotton swabs are great for keeping things in place while decorations dry.
Cute little decorations.
And larger decorations to adorn the top.
A duplicate of the top tier is made for the anniversary cake, and assembly begins.
More flowers attached and more piping.
Finished.
And the final display for the judges, telling the story of the inspiration.
